Friends of the Library - Summer of Mark Twain

Mark Twain's years in the Mother Lode will be the centerpiece of a months long celebration this summer of Twain's life and the reading habits that he inspired.
There will be a two or three month program depending on the amount of grant money available.
Activities will include some or all of these events:

Mark Twain "sightings" and "sayings" at locations around Tuolumne County.
Tie ins with summer reading program at all Tuolumne County Library branches, to include dicussions, suggested reading and Twain themed activites.

A Tom Sawyer inspired story telling session at a local graveyard.

Picket fence painting with the help of local kids and service clubs.

Summer of Mark Twain lectures and discussions on Twain's influence on American writing.

A Twain inspired film series.

Performances by local historians with expertise on Twain's era and his ties to the Mother Lode.

A book give away with at least 500 Twain books distributed to interested readers at libraries, participating schools and community events.

Summer of Mark Twain will kick off on July 15, when Friends of the Library will host the benefit preview performance of "Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" at The Fallon House Theatre in Columbia.
