Rides Behind Sierra No. 3 Available

Advance Train Ride Tickets Available Now

JAMESTOWN, Calif. – In appreciation of the community support and excitement for the successful return to service of Sierra No. 3 (also known as the “Movie Star Locomotive”), Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is offering a special, one-time only end-of-month special train ride on Friday, July 30, at 2 p.m. The memorable excursion steam train rides last approximately one hour in length and includes refreshments on board.

This special Friday afternoon train ride through the scenic Gold Country costs $13 for adults, $6 for youths ages 6-17 (children under five are free) and includes Park admission. When purchasing tickets, visitors have the option to choose either the open-air coach or the limited seating in the indoor observation car. All passengers are able to move about between the two cars during the train ride.

Advance tickets to ride behind Sierra No. 3 on this special train ride are available online at www.railtown1897.org or by calling 916-445-5995. Railtown 1897 SHP is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Reservoir Road in Jamestown, near Sonora.





Located in Jamestown, California, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is home to one of America’s last authentic, operating railroad roundhouses. Known as “The Movie Railroad,” Railtown’s locomotives and cars have appeared in over 200 film and TV productions, including High Noon, Back to the Future III, and Petticoat Junction. Tours of the Historic Jamestown Shops and Roundhouse are available daily. Weekends April-October (plus selected weekends November-December), ride behind a real steam locomotive.
Open daily (April-October, 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.; November-March, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.) except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is operated by California State Parks with assistance from the nonprofit California State Railroad Museum Foundation.




Spend time with family and friends at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park while you ride, tour, and experience steam trains, authentic railroad facilities, mechanical and engineering ingenuity, and Hollywood film and television heritage—things uniquely American! Trains depart hourly 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Roundhouse Tours available; regular Park operating hours in effect.

Depot Store and Interpretive Center open 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (daily April-October)
(Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day)
Winter Season Hours (November-March): daily 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
